Rivals

The author explains, “ Fortnite Battle Royale is a free-to-play battle royale video game.” From this quote, I learned that more people are playing fortnite than PUBG right now because it’s free. But on the other hand PUBG cost money to purchase the game. One important piece of evidence is, “As of July 2018, the game has seen over 125 million players, and has been estimated to have earned more than US$1 billion in microtransactions, outcompeting PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds.” This quote expresses that Fortnite is doing better than PUBG as of right now, and is doing a lot of sales and that is why they are rivals.Really good!

Gameplay

Another example is, “The idea for Fortnite Battle Royale arose following the release of the similar battle royale game PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds.” This comment helps me to understand that Fortnite is one of other battle royale games out there. The article describes how “The main gameplay for Fortnite Battle Royale follows the battle royale genre’s standard format. The game nominally is played either with each player on their own, or in a squad of two to four players, with up to 100 players participating each round. The round starts with players, weaponless, skydiving from floating buses (“Battle Bus”) then deploying a glider onto a region of land.” This suggests that it is a equal and fair game that you could play with your friends and have fun by trying to win other people around the world.

Objective

The article ends when the author says “The goal is to be the last player or team alive by eliminating or avoiding other players.” Reading this made me realize that this is a game of strategy and it isn’t a game of luck because you need to have a plan. Or be more experienced to have a better chance of winning. This also led me to think that the game could be random on what you get. But luck isn’t just what matters. Sometimes the objective could be changed up a little like, instead of you or your team being the last team standing it might be whoever could score the most points or whoever escapes by opening a safe and taking the crystal llama.

The author explains, “PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds (PUBG) is an online multiplayer battle royale game.” From this quote, I learned that PUBG and Fortnite are very similar because they both are battle royale game’s. One important piece of evidence is, “Players can choose to enter the match solo, or with a small team of up to four people. In either case, the last person or team left alive wins the match.” This quote expresses that the objective to be the last man standing is the same in both PUBG and Fortnite. Another fact is, “Players can opt to play either from the first-person or third-person perspective, each having their own advantages and disadvantages in combat and situational awareness; though server-specific settings can be used to force all players into one perspective to eliminate some advantages.” This comment helps me to understand that PUBG is a either first-person or third-person perspective because there is no building because first-person could affect building. The article describes how “ At the completion of each round, players gain in-game currency based on how long they survived, how many other players they had killed, and how much damage they dealt to other players. The currency is used to purchase crates which contain cosmetic items for character or weapon customization .” This suggests that PUBG is different from fortnite because you need to purchase the in-game currency. And in PUBG you could earn it but it’s random what you get in a crate. The article ends when the author says “ Every few minutes, the playable area of the map begins to shrink down towards a random location, with any player caught outside the safe area taking damage incrementally.” Reading this made me realize that PUBG and Fortnite have both give you a challenge to win and not make it easy. So players could improve.
