Flu Season 2018

The flu season this year is reaching the point where it is so bad we can compare it to the swine flu in 2009. It’s so deadly that the flu has already claimed the lives of 37 children.“This is a difficult season, and we can’t predict how much longer the severe season will last. I wish there was better news, but everything we are looking at is bad news.” CDC’s acting director, Dr. Anne Schuchat, told reporters.

What made the flu this season so awful  is one of the strain that is called H3N2 which  it is more deadly than H1N1, another subtype of the influenza A. People with asthma, diabetes, or other health conditions are even at higher risk for getting the flu so you shouldn’t wait or put off getting the vaccination. Getting medication before or in the beginning of the sickness can benefit you in a positive way and can maybe prevent you from going to the hospital later on.
“We usually see the increases in influenza-like illness and hospitalizations a couple of weeks before we see what’s going on with influenza deaths,” Schuchat  said.“People may have lengthy hospitalizations before they finally die of flu.” she added.

Actually it’s kind of our fault that the flu season is so bad this year because the flu is one of most inconsistent virus out there. Well I said kind of, the people who make the vaccines probably didn’t match up the dominant strain but they did try their hardest. We can’t blame them for this season but it didn’t help that most of us didn’t get the vaccine either.

How the medication works is when you get vaccinated, you are supposed to develop  antibiotics in about two weeks to protect against the influenza virus. This year they decided to use the main dominate strain that was the most common last year, but unfortunately this year was a different influenza strain.
